The Children's International School opened in 2003 as a privately owned, English-speaking international primary day school. It relocated to the Lekki region of Lagos in September 2013 to enable expansion into a senior school. A new boarding house opened in January 2020, and a sixth form college named Chadsworth opened in September 2020. The school is overseen by an advisory board which collaborates with the proprietor who retains overall ownership. It has specialist teaching rooms for information and communication technology, design and technology, music, art, science and performing arts, and access to sports facilities including all-weather pitches, a swimming pool and an indoor hall.
CIS Lagos maintains an active events program and a School Calendar on its site. The Extra-Curricular program offers a wide range of activities each term, including Ballet, Fencing, Gymnastics and Taekwondo, with both Teacher-Led and Externally Led Clubs. The newly formed Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is aiming to build closer partnership between parents and the school's senior leaders so that their views can jointly support pupils' learning and personal development. The school's links with the community are well developed and help to enhance pupils' understanding of the world in which they live. Parents are involved in sharing their skills with pupils as classroom readers and providing careers guidance as part of a Speaker Series for Key Stages 3 and 4. Parents have regular opportunities to contribute to records of their children's achievements through learning journals in the early years; the school has met with groups of parents or surveyed them on issues such as the canteen and the virtual learning platform, and their views are used to adapt provisions.
