Edgewood University began in 1927 as a junior college for women after Governor Cadwallader C. Washburn donated Edgewood Villa and 55 acres on Lake Wingra to the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1881; they moved St. Regina Academy to the Edgewood site and rebuilt Sacred Heart Academy after a devastating 1893 fire, later separating into Edgewood High School and Edgewood Campus School. The senior college developed in 1940, and the first Bachelor of Science degrees in education were awarded in 1942. The college expanded its facilities in the 1950s and 1960s, was accredited as a senior college in 1958, and became officially coeducational in 1970 as male students began arriving mid‑1960s. The Oscar Rennebohm Library opened in 1991, Reges Hall in 1994, the Sonderegger Science Center in 1999, and the Predolin Humanities Center in 2000, with graduate programs added in subsequent years; today about 2,000 students pursue degrees in the arts and sciences, humanities, business, education, and nursing.”
Edgewood University's community blends its Dominican Catholic heritage with contemporary campus life. The campus sits in a quiet Madison neighborhood by Lake Wingra, offering proximity to city amenities while maintaining a small‑campus feel. The Office of Student Involvement coordinates more than 15 student organizations and 20 leadership and inclusion programs, and there are over 20 campus events planned each semester, with the Dean of Students Office providing resources and support. Housing, dining, wellness, campus ministry, and career development services support student engagement and growth.”
