Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Landmark College opened its doors in 1985 as the first college established to serve students with learning disabilities and learning differences, including ADHD and ASD. It pioneered a postsecondary model focused on learners who learn differently. The campus is located in Putney, Vermont, and the college's archives document its development and milestones since 1985. The college's history highlights its role as a pioneer in LD-focused higher education.

Community

Landmark College maintains an active campus community with dedicated centers and programs. The RISE UP Center was created in spring 2017 by students and staff to support students of color and allies, and it offers programming through guided discussions, educational films, field trips, community engagement events, and volunteer opportunities. The college hosts events such as Fire Pit Monday Nights on June 23, 2025, the Fall 2025 Student Engagement Fair on September 18, 2025, and a 40th Anniversary Celebration Weekend in September 2025. These initiatives contribute to campus life that complements academics.

Parent-Teacher Association

Family Programs at Landmark College direct parents to campus resources, facilitate timely responses, and assist families with questions or concerns. The program includes a Parent FAQ addressing academics and other family resources, and serves as a communication channel between families and the college.
