Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Growth mindset is central to learning at Priory Prep. Children are encouraged to understand that strengths can be developed with effort, and learning includes emotional and social growth as well as academics. Self-reflection and peer feedback help pupils see mistakes as part of the learning process. The school aims to keep pupils happy, engaged, and motivated, and pastoral learning supports personal, social, and emotional development. PSHE and circle time help with conflict resolution, reinforcing a positive and inclusive environment.

Mental Wellbeing

Health checks are conducted regularly to gauge how pupils are faring in school, and the school prioritises happiness and safety in daily operations. The safeguarding policy is strong and actively followed by staff, with regular reviews. Anti-bullying is part of the safeguarding programme, and PSHE and circle time support students' conflict-resolution skills. A code of conduct is communicated at the start of the year, and termly parent conferences help address concerns and support pupils' wellbeing.

The Priory Preparatory School is an independent day school for children aged 5 to 10, located in Lekki Phase I, Lagos, Nigeria. The school follows the English National Curriculum within a framework that respects Nigerian traditions, delivering core subjects in English with specialist teaching in music, French, sport, computing and art. The Priory Curriculum aims to maximise each child's potential through a broad educational foundation, with daily instruction in English and mathematics and weekly science and humanities, complemented by a PSHE programme to foster resilience and a growth mindset. Reading and vocabulary development are prioritized to build cultural capital, supported by excursions, visiting experts, and varied after-school activities. The school places small class sizes and emphasises life skills to prepare pupils for the next stage of learning. The campus supports dedicated Sports and Music Academies, and offers post-school sport and music training alongside weekly music lessons.
