History
Kristiansand Katedralskole Gimle was established in 2007 when Kristiansand Katedralskole and Gimle videregående skole were merged. Kristiansand Katedralskole has a long history dating back to the Latinskolen near the cathedral; in 1686 the cathedral school privileges were transferred to Kristiansand, and the school was named Christianssand Katedralskole. Gimle videregående skole began as a technical aftenskole (evening school) in 1879 and evolved into a municipal commerce school with courses in languages and stenography, later becoming Gimle videregående skole with offerings in economics and other subjects. From 2003 plans to merge the two schools culminated in the administrative merger in 2007, and a new building linking the two campuses opened in 2010. In 2010 KKG was authorized as an IB Diploma Programme school—the first in Vest-Agder—and Chinese courses started for both VG1 and VG3 in 2012.

Community
The school hosts an Erasmus+ Spanish language assistant, Guillermo, who joined the staff to provide language support for five months. In recent years, events include the IB Diploma graduation and a school relay race for the Kreftforeningen. The school hosted the national final of the International Language Competition Norge for the sixth year in a row, and runs the Wergeland competition in collaboration with the University of Agder to foster writing. Language Provision
English is mandatory in VG1; French, German, Spanish, and Chinese are offered as foreign languages. The languages are taught at Level I (beginner) and Level II (continuation from lower secondary), with Level III available in VG3 depending on enrollment; Level III provides deeper study in the Language, Society and Economy program area. Students who did not study a foreign language in lower secondary must take a foreign language for all three years (VG1–VG3); at KKG we offer German I+II for these students. If you have a mother tongue other than Norwegian, German, French, Spanish, or Chinese, you may take your language as a private exam (oral and written) in VG1 autumn; passing the exam grants exemption from the second foreign language and frees up four hours per week for other subjects.

Immersion Programs
French Level II includes a one-week stay in Rochefort with host families. We also host visits from students and teachers from our partner school in Rochefort.
Admissions

Admissions
1. Eligibility. The Diploma Programme at Kristiansand katedralskole Gimle is taught in English and targets students planning to complete an IB Diploma in two years. To be eligible, applicants should have completed Vg1 studiespesialisering or Vg1 studieforberedende; English in Vg1 with a grade of 4 or better; Mathematics 1T with a grade of 4 or better; an IB Middle Years Programme (MYP5) with an average around 5.8 and no subject below 3 (with a strong performance in Mathematics, typically a 5). Norwegian language requirements enable study at Norwegian universities (Norwegian B HL with at least a 3). Transfers should have completed the 10th grade in the Norwegian system, including Mathematics 1T and English. The Admissions Committee reserves the right to accept or refuse any applicant based on suitability.
