Over its decades of operation the school has grown from a modest start into a full senior secondary institution, guided by a community-driven governance structure. The pioneers who established the school formed the governance framework for Indian Schools in Oman, including the School Management Committee (SMC) and the Board of Directors, to oversee its development. The Indian School Sur fosters a vibrant and inclusive community with students from more than twenty nationalities. News & Events show cultural and national celebrations such as Republic Day, the Annual Day, and National Day of Oman. The school engages families through events like invited lectures by parents and activities such as environmental poster competitions. In 2024, Indian School Sur hosted an Art & Craft Exhibition, Symphony of Colours, reflecting cultural exchange with the local community.
The Indian School Sur is governed through the School Management Committee (SMC), the PTA-equivalent body, which oversees governance and community engagement. Mohammed Ameen serves as President of the SMC. The SMC includes officers and sub-committees such as Shabeeb Mohammed as Convenor & Chair of the HSE & Transport Sub-Committee, and Nishreen Basheer as Treasurer and Chair of the Finance Sub-Committee. The Sports & Cultural Sub-Committee is chaired by Jami Srinivasa Rao, and the Academic & Public Relations Sub-Committee is chaired by Dr. Pradeep Kumar A V; Pramod Velayudhan Nair serves as Chair of the Grievance Sub-Committee. Adv Saeed T P is a member and Treasurer who chairs the Finance Sub-Committee, and the Principal, Dr. S. Srinivasan, is listed among the governance.
The Indian School Sur is a co-educational, English‑medium day school in Sur, Oman. It was founded in 1989 to serve the children of the expatriate Indian community and is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, under affiliation number 6130009. The campus sits in the Eskekira (Skekara) area of Sur, adjacent to the Mariam Mosque, and covers a 6,512 square metre site with about 4,900 square metres of built‑up space. The campus is well landscaped and includes an artificial turf playground, a roofed stage with lighting and sound, and a multi‑purpose hall. It houses Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science laboratories, a fully computerized library with an e‑library, and 27 classrooms equipped with Smart Televisions, plus rooms for Art, Craft and Music. A football turf was installed with sponsorship in 2020. The first senior secondary CBSE classes began in 2011, and as of 2019–2023 the principal is Dr. S. Srinivasan. Hindi is taught as a compulsory second language.
