MGIS was established on 1 August 2012 in Mabellah South, Muscat. In its early years, the school focused on universal values, ethics, discipline, creativity and personality development, before expanding to emphasize academic achievement, leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and vocational and career progression in the secondary years. In 2022 MGIS was registered as a Cambridge International School to offer Cambridge Assessment International Education programmes. The Cambridge Pathway is provided for students aged 5 to 15, alongside a bilingual curriculum; Grades 11 and 12 follow the MOE's General Education (G Ed) curriculum. Noor Bint Mohammed Nizar Saldin is the founder/CEO of MGIS.
MGIS hosts a diverse school community with more than 20 nationalities represented. Parents are considered integral partners in the school, with ongoing engagement through the formal ‘Parent Engagement' framework. MGIS provides a parent portal and related support services to facilitate parent–teacher communication. Community events such as International Day and National Day involve students, staff and parents, highlighting cultural diversity and shared celebration.
MGIS does not publish a standalone Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) on public pages; instead, it describes parent involvement through a formal 'Parent Engagement' framework and dedicated 'Parent Support Services'. Parent Engagement notes that families are integral partners in the school community, while Parent Support Services provide a user-friendly online portal to submit inquiries, access resources, and track progress. The school encourages regular parent–teacher communication via scheduled conferences, email, and the parent portal, supported by an integrated e-school system that shares course materials, attendance, and student progress with parents and enables feedback. Examples of family-inclusive activities include International Day and National Day celebrations, which feature parent contributions and student performances.
