The Sultan's School was established in 1977 in Seeb, Oman, under the sponsorship of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. It opened as a bilingual school, with Arabic Language, Islamic Education and Social Studies taught in Arabic and English Language, Mathematics and the Sciences taught in English. Over time, the curriculum expanded to include a full range of foundation subjects in both languages to align with national and international standards. In 2004 the school was authorized as an IB World School to offer the Diploma Programme in Years 12 and 13. The school operates as a private, co-educational institution led by a principal; the current principal is Nigel Fossey and the chairman is Major General Dr. Sulaiman Al Harthy.
The Sultan's School maintains an active, participatory school community that includes staff, students and parents in school life. In March 2018, the school celebrated its 40th anniversary with performances in English and Arabic and a history presentation, with attendance by staff, students and parents. The school engages with broader educational initiatives, including hosting the Oman Inclusion Conference at the school in 2025, reflecting collaboration among educators, parents and professionals. The IB Diploma Programme and related programs contribute to a globally oriented community.
The Sultan's School has a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) that coordinates parent participation in school activities. PTA events include fundraising and community activities; a bake sale organized by The Sultan's School PTA raised funds for Ihsan Association, with participation from students, parents and staff. The school's founding ethos emphasizes partnership with parents; EdArabia's profile notes a commitment to working with parents in partnership. In Oman, school PTAs typically include parent and teacher representatives and operate via committees. In 2025 The Sultan's School hosted the Oman Inclusion Conference, illustrating school-level engagement with parents and professionals in inclusive education. PTA activity and parent participation in events like anniversaries and community drives reflect the school's culture of community involvement.
