The Colegio Los Álamos was founded in 1992 and approved by Directoral Resolution No. 00039-92 on September 20 of that year. It began with first through third grades of Primary. Los Álamos originated as one of Prodec's initiatives, a nonprofit civil association founded in 1990 by professionals from diverse fields, with the aim of creating educational institutions that prioritized the holistic formation of the person. The school operates with principles that include a focus on the person, service to society, families as protagonists of change, and Catholic inspiration; spiritual and religious formation received by participants is led by the prelature of Opus Dei.
The school is part of the Prodec Educational Network. It publishes a blog featuring alumni events such as ExLA 2025, the 2005 reunion, and the 2025 alumni championship. The school maintains a calendar of activities and invites families to participate in school life. Families are engaged in school life and participate in community events.
Matrimonios colaboradores are grade-level couples who have internalized the school's educational project. Their mission is to promote and facilitate educational support among families and to strengthen the unity of parents with one another and with the school, promoting a climate of collaboration and friendship. They encourage the parents of their grade to attend school activities such as tutoring interviews, talks, days of integration, and Christian formation. They welcome new families and participate in the activities the school organizes. They guide families on how to submit suggestions and concerns and promote unity among the parents of the grade.
