The Max Uhle German-Peruvian School began activities in 1956 under the direction of the first German principal, Mr. Peter Kropp, with the presidency of Mr. Ernesto von Wedemeyer, and members of the Board of Patrons included Mr. Víctor Sauter, Josef Heins, René Dachler and Hans Walter Einfeldt. The school operated on the second block of Quinta Romaña, with the Kindergarten in a private house belonging to Lanificio; in 1961 the Kindergarten housed 70 children, 41 in transición, 138 in Primary and 20 in Secondary, totaling 269 students. The first graduating class occurred in 1965. In 1967 the school moved to the current Sachaca site; construction was financed by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany for 1,360,000 German marks. The 15,000 m2 plot was provided by the Parents' Association, and in the following years several buildings were added and major changes to existing facilities were made for not less than USD 700,000. In 2001 the acquisition of an adjacent 7,500 m2 plot enabled nine Kindergarten classrooms, allowing admission of three-year-olds from 2002; this investment totaled USD 530,000. The Patronato administers the school and has had six presidents, including founder Ernesto von Wedemeyer, the German consul Ulrich Neisser, the Swiss consul Víctor Sauter, and since 1982 the German consul Ulrich Gocht. In 2011 Mr. Bradley Silva was appointed and in 2015 Mrs. Katherine Roberts A. was appointed, continuing to the present. From 1965 through 2020, across 56 graduating classes, more than 2,300 alumni have graduated. The school's current operation is supported by generous contributions from Germany that cover more than a third of the annual budget, and the school undergoes annual checks by German authorities culminating in the Sprachdiplom II exam, with satisfactory pass rates in recent years.
The school offers the GIB – International Baccalaureate program and teaches and certifies two foreign languages. Student life includes international exchanges; the most significant exchange with Germany takes place in Class 10, where top students spend their last bimester at a German school, typically living with a host family and visiting a school in a different city to maximize language learning; about 60 students participate nationwide between October and December, with two weeks of induction in youth hostels and visits to museums, musicals, theatres, amusement parks, tourist attractions and universities in southern Germany and Berlin, followed by six weeks living with German host families to learn customs and many aspects of German culture. There are also exchange opportunities with the United Kingdom. The school runs a Social Action Program that immerses students in Peru's cultures, enabling them to identify problems, develop projects, and foster intercultural convivencia, with projects like Sibayo 2024–2025 to promote intercultural understanding and community development, supported by the Patronato Escolar, teachers and staff. Certifications include German language certifications (DSD I and II) and Cambridge English exams; graduates must have German and English certifications at least at level B1 before graduation.
The school is administered by the Patronato (Board of Trustees). Katherine Roberts is the President of the Patronato.
