Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

80 years dedicated exclusively to the intellectual, social and emotional growth of girls. The San Silvestre Way empowers girls through holistic education to become compassionate, proactive citizens of an ever-changing world. The mission promotes lifelong learning and aims to develop contented, confident, knowledgeable, successful, active and committed members of a global society. Fostering empathy for others and building positive relationships among students, parents, staff and the wider community are central principles.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

San Silvestre offers personalised support for children with special needs. In Early Years, Primary and Secondary, needs are identified and assessed and an individual programme of support is prepared in close liaison with teachers. The approach includes exercises in both languages and activities designed by Special Needs teachers to help students improve in areas that limit their achievement. Close communication with parents ensures total support for the pupil.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Language learning is a distinctive sign of the bilingual English–Spanish character. English forms an integral part of the curriculum and many courses are taught in English. In Early Years, English language acquisition is developed naturally; in Primary, many subjects are taught in English, with French introduced as a third language in Grade Four. In Secondary, English and Spanish are studied daily, literature is taught in both languages, and French, Mandarin and Italian are offered as optional courses.

Mental Wellbeing

To empower girls through a holistic education to become compassionate, proactive citizens of an ever-changing world. The Vision emphasizes learning as a lifelong process and aims for students to be contented, confident, knowledgeable, successful, active and committed members of a global society. Principles include care for individual development, living values, respect for self, others and the environment, and fostering empathy and strong relationships within the school and wider community. This focus supports mental wellbeing as an integral part of education.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy is in place. Bullying and Cyberbullying Policy, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, Learning Support Programme Policy and Differentiation Policy are among policies under revision. San Silvestre maintains an open-door policy with parents to support safeguarding and partnership in pupil welfare.

The curriculum features the IB Diploma Programme, Cambridge IGCSE, and Cambridge International AS Levels. In the Primary Section, learning follows a cross-curricular framework that fuses the British National Curriculum with the Peruvian National Curriculum, underpinned by the Essentials Curriculum designed by Chris Quigley. This inquiry-based approach covers Information Technology and Computing; Art, Music, Drama and Games; Physical Education; Personal and Social Education; and Religion or World Views, with French introduced in Grade 4. The school runs a bilingual English/Spanish programme, with English and Spanish as core languages and French as an additional language; Mandarin Chinese and Italian are optional. In Secondary, pupils may pursue the San Silvestre Diploma via a one-year Cambridge AS Levels or IB subjects, or follow the Cambridge IGCSE pathway and IB DP options.
