Dr. Genevieve Ledesma-Laurel founded Southville International School and Colleges (SISC) in 1990, establishing the foundation for an international school network. In 1997, Roger and Helen Bartholomew teamed up with the SISC founder to start Southville International School Affiliated with Foreign Universities (SISFU), the first international university in the country. SISFU opened in May 1998, with dignitaries and a large press contingent in attendance. SISFU is characterized by a focused curriculum, international qualifications, and an international faculty, reflecting the broader Southville aim to provide transnational education. As part of the Southville system, SISFU collaborates with foreign university partners to offer degrees and qualifications earned abroad while students study in the Philippines.
The SISFU community includes a diverse student body and a global network of partner universities and programs, including De Montfort University, Pearson UK, Southern Cross University, Macquarie University, James Cook University, SHMS, Anglia Ruskin University, University of Dundee, University of Derby, University of Central Lancashire, and The Hotel School Australia. The school hosts events that connect students with international partners and industry, such as the International University Fair at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in February 2025, which attracted over 400 registrants. Student life features active organizations like The Bridge, SISFU Business Club, Hospitality Management and Culinary Association, Digital Alliance, Rotaract Club, and Cradle. The SISFU Alumni Association maintains a global network of graduates and former students.
Public SISFU pages describe parent involvement through events rather than a standing PTA. An Evening with Parents occurred on August 31, 2013, bringing parents together with SISFU faculty to discuss their children's academic performance (including an Industrial Visit). Parents' Night 2017 celebrated families and student achievements, and launched The Bridge, the SISFU student newspaper, during the event. The Parents' Night description notes that the gathering aims to sustain ongoing dialogue between parents, students, and faculty to foster healthy relationships within the SISFU community. These activities illustrate ongoing parent engagement, including opportunities for parent–faculty conversations and public acknowledgment of contributions. SISFU also maintains the SISFU Alumni Association to connect graduates across the globe, extending the community beyond current students and families.
