Starland began in May 2001 as Starland Kiddie School, run by Dr. Jean Dumago-Descallar in a living room for 20 nursery and kindergarten pupils. In 2005 the school expanded with Cubao and Caloocan branches and became Starland Academy Incorporated. By January 19, 2007, Starland offered Preschool, Elementary, and High School and became Starland International School. SIS opened its Mindanao first campus in Butuan in 2008, followed by the Davao Mindanao expansion in 2014; the seventh SIS campus opened on June 19, 2017 as the island's first Cebu campus in Hawaiian Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City. From the humble 20-pupil living room, Starland International School has grown to nine campuses under the leadership of Dr. Jean Dumago-Descallar, its founding president.
Starland operates across multiple campuses and emphasizes campus life that centers on academics, extracurricular activities, and culture. Extracurricular activities include sports, musical plays, cultural events, and school clubs that promote teamwork, creativity, and confidence. The school calendar features events that involve families and learners, such as the First Holy Communion and a Career Guidance Orientation for Grade 10 learners, and Emergency Awareness Seminars. Parents express their perspectives through testimonials showcasing engagement and support within the Starland community.
Parent engagement is facilitated through structured communications with guardians via a Letter To Parents (LTP). The LTP provides updates on curriculum, student progress, and school activities and invites parent feedback. Parental voices are highlighted in the community testimonials that accompany the school's materials, illustrating ongoing involvement. The calendar includes family-involved events such as First Holy Communion and a Career Guidance Orientation for Grade 10 learners. Emergency awareness seminars and related safety communications are shared with families. Overall, parent participation is evidenced by these channels and events.
