Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

At BSW, every child is cared for, supported and encouraged to be their best. Pastoral care places students at the centre of a caring and inclusive environment where they feel safe to be themselves and confident to explore. Strong, trusting relationships between staff and students create a sense of belonging and emotional security. From daily interactions to structured wellbeing initiatives, the approach supports the moral, social, intellectual and emotional development of each student. With individual attention and a culture of kindness, students are empowered to grow into resilient, compassionate learners, proud of who they are and the community they are part of.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

At BSW, children with special educational needs are supported through personalised plans, in-class help and specialist care. Guided by expert staff and a strong pastoral network, they feel included, understood and empowered to thrive in both learning and life. The SENCo coordinates monitoring and targeted interventions to ensure access to the mainstream curriculum. Support is provided in-class and through specialist services to meet individual needs. The school aims to create an inclusive community that recognises each learner's strengths.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

From day one, students are immersed in an English-speaking environment where all subjects are taught in English. Three specialist EAL teachers lead the program, with small-group instruction to build fluency. Tailored language assessments using CEFR help tailor each learner's progress. Polish is taught as needed, with additional support for non-Polish speakers. French is introduced as a Modern Foreign Language from Year 4 and continues through Year 9. The goal is for students to achieve at least B2 English proficiency by Secondary Key Stage 3.

Mental Wellbeing

Pastoral care places students at the centre of a caring, inclusive environment where they feel safe to be themselves. Strong, trusting relationships with staff create belonging and emotional security. Structured wellbeing initiatives, circle times and House Learning support moral, social and emotional development. The courage to fail philosophy encourages confident risk-taking and learning from mistakes. The overall approach nurtures resilience and empowers students to be compassionate, resilient learners within the school community.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is a commitment woven into every part of school life, ensuring each child feels safe, respected and supported. Our safeguarding practices meet the highest international standards, shaped by the International Schools Partnership (ISP) and the Polish Ministry of Education. Staff are fully trained, policies are regularly reviewed, and systems are built to protect and support every child's wellbeing. From entry, the school community watches over students with care and professionalism, and safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. The safeguarding team includes the Vice Principal, Head of Pastoral and Designated Safeguard Lead, and the SENCo/Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. Key protocols include access control on all doors, CCTV across the site, an advanced fire alarm system and First Aid training.
