The Willy-Brandt-Schule Warschau is a German-Polish encounter school in Warsaw. It belongs to the network of 140 German international schools and was founded in 1978 as the embassy school Deutsche Schule Warschau. The school includes a kindergarten, a primary school, and the secondary levels I and II, and is supported and financed by the Federal Republic of Germany; it is the only German international school in Poland offering an education pathway aligned with the German education system. Native-speaking international staff and highly qualified local teachers ensure education Made in Germany, following German curricula at the highest level. Since 2005, WBS has operated under the German-Polish School Agreement as a joint German-Polish encounter school, with the education pathway following the German general education system: Grundschule, Hauptschule, Realschule, and Gymnasium. The certificate Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule, awarded by Germany, reflects its successful work.
Physical education is a central part of the program. It runs a Football Academy and regular athletics training. Students participate in structured sports activities as part of the school program. The sports offerings are integrated with other aspects of the school's academic and co-curricular activities.
The curriculum corresponds to the German general education system: Grundschule, Hauptschule, Realschule, and Gymnasium. Education is offered in two tracks: a German-language program and a Polish-language program (the International Department), where German language skills are built up step by step toward the German Abitur. All subjects taught follow German Abitur requirements shaped by Baden-Württemberg and Thuringia curricula. The school places emphasis on practical science components, the development of musical abilities (WBS Music Academy), and athletic development (Football Academy and athletics), and maintains a scientific cooperation with the University of Warsaw (as of January 2017). Career-related activities include internships, career guidance events, and visits to Viadrina University in Frankfurt an der Oder and the Federal Employment Agency in Berlin.
After-school care offers a broad range of additional activities. The playrooms are open until 18:00, and children have the opportunity to participate in sports, artistic, musical, technical and other clubs.
