Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Willy-Brandt-Schule Warschau is a German-Polish encounter school in Warsaw. It was founded in 1978 as the embassy school 'Deutsche Schule Warschau' and began with two teachers, one kindergarten teacher, and ten students. Today it educates over 400 students, with 80 kindergarten children, 60 teachers, and 20 preschool staff, and includes a kindergarten, a primary school, and the secondary levels I and II. The school is staffed and financed by the Federal Republic of Germany and is the only German Auslandsschule in Poland offering a German-system education; it holds the certificate 'Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule' awarded by Germany. Since 2005, it operates under the Deutsch-Polnisches Schulabkommen as a joint educational institution of both countries, with two educational pathways: the German-language program area or the Polish-language 'Internationale Abteilung,' where German language skills are built up toward the Abitur; all subjects follow German Abitur requirements based on Baden-Württemberg and Thuringia curricula.

Community

Afternoon care provides a broad range of activities; the playrooms are open until 18:00, and children may participate in sports, arts, music, technical and other clubs. A WBS video explains the school's orientation and the academies for music and football. A photo gallery is available on the site.
