WIS was established in 2002 as the first international school in south-western Poland. It is a not-for-profit school run by the Foundation of International Education (FEM), which also operates ATUT Bilingual Primary School and the International High School of Wroclaw. In September 2016, WIS began operating from a brand-new campus in Wrocław. Alumni can continue their IB education in the IB Diploma Programme at the International High School of Wroclaw.
Parents play a special role in the learning community. The Parent-Teacher Association brings together parents, teachers, and others who are interested in supporting the school and promoting a sense of community. The PTA meets monthly for Coffee Mornings to discuss current school issues in an informal setting and has an elected board with a chairperson, vice chairperson, treasurer and secretary, plus several sub-committees. It runs social events for parents and children, supports new families, maintains an active presence on social media (including a private Facebook group), and conducts fundraising to support charity aims and extras for students.

Wroclaw International School (WIS) offers a community-focused environment located on a purpose-built campus in the southern part of the city. As an authorized IB World School, it provides the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children aged 4 to 11 and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for those aged 11 to 16. Learning is centered on inquiry-based methods where students are encouraged to connect different subject areas to real-world issues.A significant feature of the school is its "Wolves Athletic Program," which allows students to participate in inter-school sports competitions across Poland and Central Europe. For older students, the school ensures a seamless transition to its sister institution, the International High School of Wrocław, for the completion of the IB Diploma Programme. Facilities include specialized science labs, a dedicated international library, and an auditorium used for the school's "Winter WOW" concerts, which celebrate student talent in music and the performing arts.
