In 2020 The Butterflies Learning Centre was created to provide educational services in English, promoting the preparation of students to sit the Cambridge exams and opening its doors to all types of academic, didactic or recreational activities that allow the acquisition and development of the English language. Since then, we have had the privilege of preparing countless children and teenagers to communicate in English in order to be accepted by various international schools and universities. We have made it our mission to provide a space where cognitive development and learning, affection and the relationship with others, play and work, creativity and art, social development and physical well-being are as important as acquiring English language skills. In 2024 we are growing! With the approval of Social Security and the Ministry of Education, the Butterflies Empowering Education school was created. We moved to new and permanent facilities in Quinta da Beloura where, in a space entirely dedicated to education, we seek to offer quality, differentiated and individualized education in a bilingual atmosphere, where both English and Portuguese are used and valued.
Open Day events invite families to meet pupils and teachers, tour classrooms and learn about the bilingual curriculum. An Open Day is scheduled for each year; examples include Open Day on Wednesday, 25 March, with a programme including Welcome, Guided tour, and Admissions Q&A, and registration details. Butterflies also engages in social responsibility initiatives, including a partnership with Fundação Minhembeti in Mozambique to provide clean water for people and agriculture.
Butterflies School in Beloura, Portugal, is a day school delivering bilingual education in Portuguese and English and following the Portuguese National Curriculum. English is treated as an equal language to Portuguese, with English- and Portuguese-speaking teachers in all classes. The school educates children from Nursery through Primary and blends project-based experiences with the Labs program and the Aloha Maths curriculum to enrich mathematical thinking and scientific inquiry. A German Section has been added as a German curriculum pathway, reflecting the school's commitment to multilingualism. Facilities combine bright indoor spaces with outdoor learning through Outdoor Discoveries, Mud Kitchen, Garden Patch, and Forest School activities. Key enrichment includes the Inventors Club and hands-on labs, plus extensive arts, science, and reading/writing in both languages. In 2024 the school moved to new, dedicated facilities in Quinta da Beloura, expanding its bilingual, child-centered, inquiry-driven approach. The environment supports curiosity, collaboration, and lifelong learning for families.
