The German international curriculum forms the academic backbone and ensures standardization for Deutsche Auslandsschulen, enabling seamless transitions to German and international schools. In Grundschule (grades 1–4) learning is built on differentiated instruction and open formats such as weekly plans, learning stations, and workshop-based teaching. German is the instruction language, complemented by English and Portuguese as mandatory foreign languages; from the second grade there are native-speaker and foreign-language groups to support language development. From grade 3 English and experimental work are added, and the program emphasizes creative, natural-science and physical education alongside core subjects, developing language skills and independent learning.
Creativity is integrated into the daily program, with music and art included in the timetable, alongside general studies, sport and swimming. The Deutsche Schule Algarve is a state-recognized German international school located in the Algarve. It offers a German curriculum for students aged 5 to 18, guiding Grundschule (grades 1–4) and Sekundarstufen I & II (grades 5–12), culminating in the German International Abitur (DIA). German remains the language of instruction, while Portuguese is the everyday language and English and French are taught as mandatory foreign languages. The school follows KMK guidelines for Deutsche Auslandsschulen and collaborates with Deutsche Schule Lissabon to ensure smooth transitions to German or international schools.
