Let the school know you're thinking of applying — they can share their prerequisites and help you through the process.
It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
EGI International began as Jill's Place in 2005, after the concept originated in 1989 when Jill was an exchange student in rural Portugal and expanded in 1996. Jill's Place moved to Carcavelos, where it remained for 15 years and developed its identity. A group of parents invested in an expansion project to open a new campus in September 2028. EGI is Jill's Place with a new name but the same heart, now serving older students while maintaining the same values. Children can begin at 18 months and stay through age 11 in a home-away-from-home, child-centered learning environment.
Internationalism informs our processes, resources and curriculum and brings the school community closer by developing mutual understanding of beliefs, nationalities, languages, cultures and religions. The goal is global citizenship wider than a single scheme of work or subject, with students, teachers, staff and parents each bringing experiences from their cultures, histories and languages. We understand what learning in a new language might be like and aim to develop trust through English as a common language. Community activities include Easter Break Programme during holidays, Summer Fun is an English-language program for children aged 18 months to 10 years from June 29 to July 24, after-school activities such as Portuguese, swimming, creative dance and contemporary dance, and a party space for celebrations.
EGI International, formerly Jill's Place, offers a Cambridge International Curriculum for Early Years and Primary to children from 18 months to 11 years. Since September 2025, teaching spaces moved from Carcavelos to Fundição de Oeiras, with plans to relocate to purpose-built premises in Barcarena-Oeiras in the near future. The school provides English-language instruction and a home-away-from-home, child-centred learning environment. A Project-Based Learning approach develops practical understanding and problem solving. EGI's history traces back to 2005, when Jill's Place began, inspired by a concept from 1989 during an exchange in rural Portugal, and expanded in 1996. In September 2028, a group of parents plans a campus expansion under the EGI name while preserving the same values. The program runs from 18 months to 11 years, and includes Music, Art and PE in the timetable, with after-school activities such as Portuguese, swimming and creative or contemporary dance to broaden experience for students.
