NOAP is the only Dutch day school in Portugal affiliated with NOB (Nederlands Onderwijs in het Buitenland) and is approved by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. It works with the Education Inspectorate to guarantee that your child meets Dutch compulsory schooling. This ensures that reintegration into the Netherlands would be easy if your child returns. If your child does not return, the curriculum emphasizes Portuguese and English language learning to facilitate progression into the Portuguese and international school systems, giving NOAP a unique position in the Algarve. The Stichting Nederlandse Onderwijs Algarve Portugal (NOAP Foundation) has its statutes filed with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number KVK 75752123; the board consists of a group of involved people who serve as chair, secretary and treasurer and oversee personnel policy, the school plan, policy development and finances.
NOAP offers fully Dutch-language day education in a rural setting near Silves, in the Algarve, surrounded by orange trees. Our students can develop in a safe and familiar environment and also learn Portuguese language and culture through play-based lessons. Small classes provide personal attention. After-school care (BSO) is available for children aged 4 to 12, with care on Mondays to Thursdays from 15:15 to 17:30, and the BSO is possible from 1 day per week.
Leerlingenraad: We have a student council, with one class representative from each group, forming eight students (groups 1 through 8). The Leerlingenraad meets with the school leadership every three weeks and represents all students, giving them a voice to discuss ideas with the school leadership. Medezeggenschapsraad (MR): Our MR thinks and decides on school policy and represents parents and staff. Under the Wet Medezeggenschap op Scholen (WMS) the MR has the right to advise, to consent with plans, and to propose ideas. The MR focuses on good education, a positive work atmosphere for the staff, and a safe, pleasant school for all children. The MR is actively and critically involved and can be reached at mr@noap.info.
