The uniform is compulsory for all students and is purchased exclusively from Zaks Uniform Shop. The uniform policy covers all year groups, with a Year 7–8 transition to mark senior status; some items such as modesty swimsuits, shoes, trainers, socks, tights, and charcoal grey skirts, skorts, shorts and trousers may be sourced from other retailers.
DESS uses a four-house system: Falcon, Camel, Dugong, and Oryx. Every student is assigned to a house, with siblings placed in the same house. Each house has a Head of House and House Captains, and there are annual inter-house events such as Sports Week and Swim Gala Week. House points are awarded for achievement and behaviour, with weekly announcements of totals in assemblies.
DESS operates as a not-for-profit preparatory school. It is governed by a Board of Governors that oversees management and development in line with its constitution, British and international standards, and Qatar law. The Board comprises elected governors along with the School Principal and non-voting members such as the Business Manager, Staff Representative, and Parent Council Representative, with sub-committees providing recommendations.
