Newton Group of Schools was established in 2006 and has grown into a leading network of private British international schools in Qatar. Newton International School – Lagoon is part of this group and serves students from age 3 to 18. The Lagoon campus follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales and emphasizes Character Education and Philosophy for Children (P4C) as a through-line in daily learning. The group expanded across Doha with campuses including West Bay, Lagoon, D-Ring, Barwa City, Al Waab, Lusail, and Muraikh, forming the Newton Group of Schools. The British Schools Overseas (BSO) inspection praised the group's strategic leadership, ethos, and pupil behaviour as exemplary.
NIS Lagoon has an active and engaged school community, with parents described as true partners who participate in open mornings, workshops, and family events. The campus hosts a range of events that involve pupils, staff, parents, and the local community. Examples of events include a University Fair, Year 1 OliOli Katara trip, Year 10 Parents' Information Evening, A Cosy Day in EYFS, World Teachers' Day at NIS Lagoon, and The 321 Cultural Olympiad 2025. Regular community activities and involvement are highlighted on the campus pages, reflecting an emphasis on collaboration between families and the school.
The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at NIS Lagoon is an active and integral part of the school community. It is a volunteer body of teachers and parents who help organise school events. The main aims are to encourage co-operation between parents and teachers for the well-being of the children, to foster an interest in the educational processes, and to engage in a range of activities—both social and educational—to further enhance the life of the school. The day-to-day running of the PTA is in the hands of a small committee of elected members that are agreed at the PTA's inaugural meeting at the start of each new academic year. Parents and Teachers are automatically members of the PTA. The PTA is currently helping to organise a series of events aimed at fostering good relationships among pupils, staff, parents, and the local community.
