Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The Scholars' International School supports Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) primarily through its Co-curricular Activities, which are integrated into the school's holistic education approach. An Enrichment Period provides two weekly dedicated periods for life skills, curricular activities, and clubs, with students selecting areas of interest and receiving instruction from teachers proficient in those topics. The program includes mentoring and life-skill modules, Qatar Identity activities, and Islamic Values activities, all designed to foster character and well-being. Clubs such as Kids Club, STEM Club, and Reading Club, along with cultural activities in music, dance, art, and physical education, help students develop social-emotional competencies and peer connections in a diverse setting. The initiative explicitly emphasizes friendship among students from diverse backgrounds as they learn, play and grow together.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is supported by a Student Counsellor in the Primary section, Nada Abdel Mohmed, and by on-site nurses who attend to students' health and safety needs. The presence of a Student Counsellor indicates dedicated welfare support for students, alongside health services provided by nurses. The school's Code of Ethics emphasizes student safety and wellbeing, including providing effective supervisory tools to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of students. Life skills and personality development within the curriculum contribute to students' emotional resilience. Public materials also indicate that life-skills and mentoring are part of the curriculum and co-curricular offerings.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding and child protection are integral to the school's policy framework. The Code of Ethics requires staff to provide a healthy and safe learning environment and to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of students. Article 4 of the Code explicitly articulates the principal's duty to provide effective supervisory tools to guarantee student safety and wellbeing. Staffing supports safeguarding, including a Primary Student Counsellor and on-site nurses who attend to students' health and safety needs. The combination of formal safeguarding policies and welfare staff underpins the school's approach to student protection.
