Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Ecole Actuelle Bilingue is part of La Cité Scolaire Internationale (CSI). CSI comprises several structures in Senegal: EAB, the bilingual Collège-Lycée Bilingue (LCB), and the Dakar teacher training center, with an establishment in Bamako, Mali. CSI offers a single schooling solution in Dakar from Petite Section to Terminale. The school follows directives of the French Ministry of Education and AEFE and develops a school project every three years. In the current year, EAB educates about 750 pupils from Petite Section to CM2, with a curriculum that emphasizes French language, bilingualism, and multiculturalism, and partnerships that enable ambitious and enriching projects.

Community

Every day from 15:10 to 16:10, after-school activities are offered; they are described as playful, cultural, or sports and are led by external professionals or by school staff. Activities include a writing workshop, basketball, crafts, sewing, dance, football, graphic design, sciences, chess, motor skills, painting, circus, pottery, hip hop, tennis, and theatre. The school maintains an alumni network and invites former students to join the alumni program and attend future reunions, with updates at alumni@ecoleactuellebilingue.org and on the alumni Facebook page. The Parent-Teacher Association (APE) fosters links between families and the school, supports projects, runs activities to strengthen relations, and holds monthly meetings; it also forms commissions and invites participation; membership is 5,000 CFA per year per family.

Parent-Teacher Association

APE stands for the Association des Parents d'Elèves of the EAB. It supports the school in its projects by providing pedagogical, social, material, and financial contributions to broaden student experiences. It creates spaces for parent–teacher dialogue, with monthly meetings and a principal who meets with the APE to discuss ideas and upcoming activities. Working groups are formed as commissions to organize events; joining requires completing an adhesion form and paying 5,000 CFA per year per family. Past and ongoing activities include Café Jokko (first held in 2016), Movie Nights (such as the Joyeux Noël Madagascar screening in 2015), Bal Masqué, World Book Day activities, a Shared Lunch, and the end-of-year Kermesse.

Ecole Actuelle Bilingue (EAB) is a private international school in Dakar, Senegal, within La Cité Scolaire Internationale (CSI). The campus network includes Campus Corniche Ouest and Campus Ngor, serving Petite Section through CM2 with distinct French and bilingual programs. EAB offers three pathways: the classic French track (CP–CM2) aligned with the French national curriculum and enriched by four English sessions per week; the bilingual track (Nursery–CM2) taught equally in French and English by two teachers per class; and an alternative Relai track for learners with identified difficulties, providing an individualized program and psychological support. The school participates in the AEFE network, is recognized by the Senegalese Ministry of National Education, and the classical section is homologated by the French Ministry of National Education. CSI promotes multilingualism and multiculturalism and aims to prepare students for study in international institutions. Extracurricular activities run daily, and the Parent Association (APE) supports school projects and events.
