Language Provision

Language learning opportunities and multilingual education

Language Provision

English is mandatory for all primary-year students; a second foreign language among French, German, Russian or Spanish is available as an elective in grades 1–4, with French, German and Spanish offered in middle years (grades 5–9) and throughout the DP; students typically study at least one foreign language, and often two. The Diploma Programme includes Group 1 language A options (Serbian, English or other languages such as Russian, Spanish, German on request), and Group 2 Language Acquisition courses (Language B in English, French, German or Spanish; Language Ab Initio in French, German or Spanish). The Cambridge IGCSE offers English, English as a Second Language, German, French and Spanish as foreign languages. The school also provides a Center for Learning Foreign Languages for additional courses with progression to international certificates (IELTS, DELF, DELE, etc.), Serbian as a Second Language for host-country learners, and Self-Taught Language A options for languages not offered (SSST).

Bilingual Teaching

The school offers two integrated Cambridge models: taught in English (Cambridge + British National Curriculum) and taught bilingually (Cambridge + Serbian National Curriculum). Cambridge Primary Education focuses on English, Mathematics and Science, with English language development supported by English as a Second Language. Upper Secondary education follows Cambridge Upper Secondary – IGCSE, taught in English.

Immersion Programs

The Crnjanski system runs Cambridge International Programme and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, creating an international, multilingual school setting. English as an Additional Language (EAL) supports learners whose first language is not English, from primary years through the DP. A Center for Learning Foreign Languages offers additional language courses with certificate outcomes, and Serbian is taught as a host-country language for international students; Self-Taught Language A options are available for languages not offered by the school, including Russian, Dutch, Greek and Chinese in DP contexts.
