Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is integrated into the curriculum through the award-winning Second Step program. This program enhances students' abilities in cooperation, communication, and decision-making, with a particular emphasis on bullying prevention. By fostering emotional intelligence from a young age, the school aims to create a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive both socially and academically.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Student Support Department offers comprehensive services to assist students facing academic, emotional, physical, or developmental challenges. Utilizing a Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) approach, the team which includes counselors, therapists, and specialized educators, identifies and addresses individual student needs. Services encompass early intervention, academic support, counseling, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and intensive support programs.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

While the school offers daily Mandarin or Spanish language options, there is no specific English as an Additional Language (EAL) program for this age group. Instead, young learners naturally acquire English language skills through interaction with teachers and peers in a supportive setting

Mental Wellbeing

The Stamford American International School Early Years program emphasizes the mental wellbeing of its students by fostering a nurturing and supportive environment. Teachers and staff are attentive to the social and emotional needs of young children, promoting positive interactions and a sense of belonging. While specific programs are not detailed, the school's commitment to holistic development ensures that mental wellbeing is a priority.

Safeguarding

Stamford American International School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of children and young people in its care. The school adheres to international safeguarding policies, ensuring a safe learning and working environment for students, staff, parents, and visitors alike. This commitment includes having clear policies and procedures in place to protect children and young people from harm.
