Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process of developing a student's relationships, decision-making, and empathy toward others. GIS uses SEL as a guide to help students become responsible, reliable, and respectful. In Primary, teachers dedicate time in the mornings and afternoons for students to process the ups and downs of relationship-building and emotions. During this time, students learn how to express their feelings using words and phrases that are understood by others. GIS emphasizes collaboration and cross-curricular learning, with SEL integrated through project-based learning and grade-level collaboration.
ESL is offered as part of the Specialty Team. The ESL teacher is Mr. Juan Dominguez, and Spanish / ESL is taught by Ms. Jeniffer Carrion.
Mental wellbeing is supported through mindfulness and life balance. Co-curricular activities include mindfulness and practices that promote life balance. The Schoolwide Learning Outcomes emphasize stress management and personal development.
