Lycée International Xavier (LIX) opened in March 2002 in Seoul with the consent of the French ambassador and the official recognition of Seoul's Board of Education. It was founded by the Communauté apostolique Saint François-Xavier, a Catholic community that runs the Centres Madeleine Daniélou (CMD) network in France and abroad. The school follows the official programmes of the French Ministry of Education and is affiliated with Mission Laïque Française (MLF) and the AEFE network, reflecting its status as a French international school. In 2012, LIX joined the Mission Laïque Française network, strengthening its ties to the global French education system. The institution has welcomed students from preschool through high school since its founding, forming a multilingual, multicultural community in Seoul.
The school community is multilingual and multicultural, reflecting its French international program in Seoul; languages taught include English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Latin. The community also includes an active alumni network and groups such as the Community of SFX, fostering connections among current students, graduates and families.
APELIX, the Lycée International Xavier Parent Association, was established in 2019/2020 as a non-profit organization and includes all LIX parents. APELIX aims to inform LIX families about the school's distinctive education, represent parents on internal committees (such as the elementary council and cross-level committee), organize activities that support students and align with educational projects, and strengthen communication between parents, staff and the school leadership. Volunteer parents lead activities, with options to join as event volunteers, attend monthly meetings as active members, or serve as administrative advisors. Membership costs 5,000 won per year, and funds support student activities. APELIX communicates in multiple languages (French, English, Korean) and provides contact via teamapelix@gmail.com and a Kakao Open Chat; current leadership includes a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.
