Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

St. Johnsbury Academy Jeju runs a school-wide Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) program that complements academic learning. CCAs are organized as Cornerstone activities aligned with subjects, Extended Co-Curriculars for competitions and research-based work, and Exploratory Co-Curriculars to discover new interests. CCAs run across grade levels with elementary sessions typically nine weeks per season and after-school blocks from 15:30 to 16:15, Monday through Thursday; Fridays are reserved for travel and family time. The repertoire includes math and science clubs, debate, robotics, and other academically oriented activities led by teachers or student-initiated groups.

Arts and Creative

A broad spectrum of arts and creative clubs and programs is available at SJA Jeju. High School offerings include Dance Club, Drama/Theatre Club, Filmmaking Club, Photography Club, Studio Art Club, and Jazz Band, along with Fashion Design, Culinary Arts, Ceramics, and Yearbook. After-school arts clubs are supported by faculty and often include student-led initiatives. These opportunities give students hands-on experience in performance, film, visual arts, and design.

Cultural and Language

Language and cultural clubs include Chinese Club, Spanish Club, French Club, Japanese Club, Korean as a Foreign Language Club, and Korean-related language exchanges. English Exchange Club and Model United Nations provide opportunities for global understanding and public speaking practice. These clubs often operate within the after-school CCA framework and cross-grade collaborations.

Social and Hobbies

Social and hobby CCAs include Board Games, Dance, Hiking, and Cycling, as well as other interest-based clubs. These activities provide opportunities for peer interaction, leadership, and personal interest exploration in a relaxed setting. Some middle school clubs are open to high school students to encourage cross-age collaboration.

Community and Service

Community service and service-learning are integrated into the CCA program, with opportunities that include Red Cross Youth, service-learning projects, and outreach activities. Students volunteer in youth programs, participate in charity initiatives, and develop civic-mindedness through organized activities and clubs. The program emphasizes real-world impact and teamwork beyond the classroom.

Leadership and Professional

Student leadership is cultivated through formal roles such as Student Government (STUCO) or Dorm Council, and through clubs that foster entrepreneurship and project management, such as DECA and journalism. The ASA program supports leadership development by encouraging student-led clubs and teacher mentorship, with opportunities to plan meetings, run events, and manage club activities. Some clubs offer mentoring, college readiness preparation, and exposure to professional skills.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Athletics are a central part of SJA Jeju's extracurricular life, with seasonal team and individual sports across grade levels. The spring season and other seasons include multiple sports and compete in inter-school events, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and discipline. The ASA program also includes opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking and cycling, and supports wellness through active participation and balanced scheduling.
