Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Barcelona Montessori School centres social and emotional learning within the Montessori curriculum. The school provides a safe space for students to understand their own emotions and those of others. Grace and courtesy lessons directly teach social skills and contribute to emotional development. Class communication follows the principle of naturality, and the community values the richness that languages and cultures bring to learning. Mixed‑age classrooms enable older students to support younger peers, fostering empathy, collaboration, and independence.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English unites the Barcelona Montessori School community, representing more than 40 nationalities. Class communication follows the principle of naturality and reflects language diversity in daily learning. The school values the richness that other languages and cultures bring to understanding the world. The environment recognises the importance of multilingual exposure as part of the Montessori approach. Staff expertise includes English, Spanish, and French among teaching staff.

Mental Wellbeing

Life at Barcelona Montessori School follows the Montessori Curriculum and aligns with the British National Curriculum and Early Years Foundation Stage. The school is a micro-society and a safe space for students to understand their own emotions and those of others. Adaptability is a critical skill to navigate social contexts, and students develop emotional resilience through navigating challenges in a supportive environment. The Montessori approach fosters independence, self-discipline, concentration, and responsible social interaction, all of which support mental wellbeing. Pupil wellbeing is reinforced through daily practice of cooperation and empathy.

Safeguarding

Policies and procedures are revised annually. The School Policies and Procedures page provides access to the current policy framework. Safeguarding is addressed within these policies and procedures.
