Active family participation: Parentss active participation and interaction with teachers and staff is encouraged, as parents are responsible for the education of their child. Freedom, Respect and Responsibility: The school educates on freedom. The respect that students must show towards their companions, families, teachers and staff emanates from this freedom. The student will always be held responsible for his own actions. Significant and Functional Learning: Teachers potentiate learning skills over teaching skills. They are submerged in a process of continual training in order to provide students with the necessary tools in order to discover and learn. Language Learning: Language learning is a fundamental achievement in the students present and future. Our curriculum includes English and French as first and second foreign languages. Healthy Development: Physical activity and sports are a fundamental pillar of student development, not only for its proven benefits but also for the values that can be associated with team sports. Healthy development should be completed with a balanced diet, therefore, we offer our own prepared meal services. Our Commitment to the Environment and to our Historical and Cultural Heritage: We are committed to respecting the environment and the historical and cultural heritage in the hopes of promoting attitudes and habits that achieve everyones participation within the educational community inside and outside of the school building. Religious Tolerance: We respect all religions, individual and collective beliefs, as long as they dont interfere with basic human rights. We have adopted the morals and values of Catholicism. Innovation, Methodology and Technology: The school is open to the consistent evolution of our world. We have adopted new technologies as means to potentiate and facilitate learning processes, and we continually evaluate educational innovations in order to implement those that contribute to a better educational method in any aspect. Educational project: Where is our starting point? In consistency with the ideology and values of Centro Educativo Brite1nico S21 La Laguna, our pedagogical model is based on the concept of “education”: “Education is the process of socialization amongst individuals of a society. It can be perceived in a series of acquired abilities, attitudes, knowledge and values, causing a change in intellectual, social and emotional order.” Learning versus Teaching: Our educational system gives way to learning as the main objective, instead of teaching. The teacher becomes an expert guide that provides the tools and information necessary for students to be submerged in a process of constant discovery. New concepts will be built upon the foundation of the students prior knowledge. Functional and Significant Learning: The “How” and “Why”: The objective is to achieve a significant and functional learning process, meaning that students acquire the tools that will allow them to resolve everyday problems efficiently, interrelate their knowledges and apply them to new situations, establish a clear relationship between what is learned and its significance and use. Methodological Innovation: Improving Our Students Experience: We live in a society that places importance on the acquisition of key competencies in order to succeed. Innovation is one of the key constants. It is important to be aware of and understand the new educational tendencies: project learning, multiple intelligences, cooperative learning, projects based on competencies, problem solving, etc. The objective is that students acquire the knowledge and key competencies of the curriculum improving their school experience, creativity and happiness. New Technologies and New Spaces: The Student at the Center of their Own Learning: In relation to innovation, new technologies have acquired a more important role in the educational system of our school. Our Technological Itinerary provides technological training for students, while at the same time shows them how a combination of resources and tools facilitate learning processes. Our spaces including the Project Room and Smart Zone allow the student to be at the very center of their own learning. Trilingual project: Multicultural society is here to stay: Learning foreign languages is one of the pillars of our educational system. The objective is that students be able to master Spanish, English and French by the end of Baccalaureate, certifying their level through the Cambridge Exams and French Alliance. Our Trilingual Project helps the process of linguistic immersion that begins during the first stage of Preschool Education. French is taught from the first year of primary school onwards. Furthermore, we have developed a program of transversal projects for Primary, Secondary, and Baccalaureate so that students use both English and French to communicate in multiple contexts. Open-mindedness and Familiarity: Family as a key element: Families play a key role in the educational system of Centro Educativo Brite1nico S21 La Laguna, not only because of their decisive role in the education of their children but also for their participation in school life. For this reason, we define ourselves as an open and familiar centre, where parents can access the facilities and interact with teachers, staff, other parents and friends while contributing to the education and development of students emotional intelligence. Together we are a team: All of this is made possible because the school has adapted a collaborative culture involving management, teachers, staff members and families. Team work is the idea we have adapted as a way to better ourselves each day.
