The Aurinkorannikon Suomalainen Koulu is a private Finnish school with the right to award diplomas. It follows Finnish national curricula for preschool, basic education, and upper secondary education, and includes an on-site preschool. The school is located in the heart of Los Pacos, Fuengirola, in Andalusia, near the southernmost point of continental Europe. The campus includes on-site cafeteria services, Ravintola Aurinkola, which prepares meals daily. The school provides comprehensive student welfare, including school health, a school psychologist and tutor staff, and has a dedicated support structure for learning, including specialists and tutoring. The school participates in Liikkuva Koulu and KiVa Koulu programs to promote physical activity and address school safety, and runs teacher training internships for aspiring educators.
The school offers preschool, basic education, and upper secondary education with school-specific curricula designed to align with national guidelines. In grades 7–9, student guidance helps students understand their life and study contexts, with a focus on planning for further education in grade 9. During upper secondary, guidance supports planning for university studies, further education, work, and career orientation, while promoting student well-being and development. For students who need additional support, there is a tiered system including differentiated instruction, flexible groupings, co-teaching with special education professionals, and targeted tutoring; students with assessed needs may receive enhanced support plans. All first-graders undergo screening for reading difficulties with the Niilo Mäki Institute, and depending on results, individual testing and exam accommodations may be arranged.
Kerhot are organized to support learning outside the classroom. A free morning care runs Monday to Friday from 8:15 to 9:45 for preschool and grades 1–2, and a paid afternoon club runs from 13:00 to 16:00 for preschool and grades 1–2. Club activities are planned each year based on resources, space, staff, and student interest, and aim to help students discover hobbies in a new country while developing creativity, motor skills, and social-emotional well-being. Topics include Spanish language and culture, various sports, music and creative activities, and practical life and communication skills. Details, schedules, and fees are communicated via Wilma, and short-term clubs are offered during the year.
