The school follows the British National Curriculum with Spanish taught from age 3 and German and Chinese taught from age 6. Students are split into Houses: Kings, Wilberforce and Cervantes. House points are awarded for academic achievement, sporting success and good behaviour, tallied throughout the year with the winner decided on Sports Day. At the start of the school year, students vote for Head Boy, Head Girl and a House captain (one boy and one girl from Sixth Form) to represent them. The House system and related activities foster community, competition and collaboration across the school.
Head Boy and Head Girl are elected at the start of the year, and a boy and a girl from Sixth Form are chosen as House captains to represent the student body. This leadership structure is integral to the Houses system, providing opportunities for student representation and responsibility.
The Houses system promotes teamwork and healthy competition through sport and academics, with House points awarded for achievement and conduct. Sports Day on the final day of the school year determines the winning House. The presence of elected student leaders and house-based activities supports a sense of community and well-being within the school.
Colégio Hispano Británico Lanzarote delivers the British National Curriculum for students aged 5 to 18, blending English with Spanish, German and Chinese language study. It is an independent school and a British School Overseas (BSO) accredited centre, hosting Cambridge International Examinations, Edexcel and Trinity assessments, and providing UCAS and Open University access. Founded in 1976, it is the island's sole Lanzarote school accredited to teach the British curriculum abroad and an official Cambridge examination centre. The campus, set on extensive grounds near the golf course in Puerto del Carmen, offers a safe, multicultural learning environment designed to foster interaction. Students typically take around 14 GCSE subjects, with some pursuing up to 17, and may continue with Cambridge A Levels or BTEC qualifications into first– or second-year university study. A notable feature is the Environmental Management approach to Geography, with strong language provision and a house system supporting leadership and community.
