Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Located in Granada, Spain, Colegio Virgen de Gracia was founded in 1943 as a preparatory school at the Minor Seminary. It was officially inaugurated as Colegio Virgen de Gracia in 2001. The school belongs to the Fundación Escolar Diocesana San Juan de Ávila, founded in 1953 to provide education in contexts where the State did not reach. The Foundation operates eleven centers across Granada, reflecting a network of Catholic schools and centers dedicated to Christian formation and quality education.

Community

Semana Cultural is a school-wide Cultural Week that opens the Centre to the broader community and the city of Granada. In 2019, from February 11 to 16, the week included activities with students from the Foundation's Granada schools Virgen de las Angustias, Cerrillo de Maracena, San Agustín and Santa María Micaela. The program included a concert by the Virgen de Gracia choir and orchestra and a meeting to explain secondary education, plus workshops in science, robotics and mathematics. Cultural activities were held at various city spots (Plaza de Gracia, Plaza Bib-Rambla, Fuente de las Batallas). On February 14, the day of Saint Valentine, students distributed poems entitled “Love for Granada” to passersby; on February 15, Infantil organized “the Day of the Grandparents”; and the week closed on February 16 with a basketball match between CB Granada and FC Barcelona Lassa, attended by families.

Parent-Teacher Association

The AMPA is the Asociación de Madres y Padres de Alumnos del Colegio Diocesano Internacional Virgen de Gracia, a non-profit that collaborates actively in school life and represents families to the administration and teaching staff. Its mission is to accompany the center's growth, promote activities and serve as a channel of communication between families and the school. It facilitates communication, collaborates in activities that complement student education, guides parents in their children's education, and coordinates improvements to infrastructure with possible financial support. The AMPA is led by President Juan de la Cruz Salamanca Martínez; Vicepresident Francisco García Moreno; Secretary Octavio Caba Pérez; Treasurer Leticia Caballero Gálvez; and several vocales. To participate, families can fill an enrollment form to join the AMPA. Contact: 958 26 08 16, ampa@colegiovirgendegracia.org.
