The Guidance Department is present at all educational stages and supports the cognitive, academic, social, emotional and moral development of students. It serves as a resource for students, teachers and families within the educational process. Four major areas guide its work: guidance in teaching and learning processes, attention to diversity, academic and professional guidance, and guidance for prevention and human development. A speech therapy service supports the development of speech, language and communication. Psychologists and guidance counselors promote mental health and assess or identify disorders; Specific Educational Support Needs (SESN) are identified and the Diversity Care Plan is adapted as needed. They coordinate with external agencies and provide vocational and professional guidance in secondary and the Baccalaureate, fostering a positive climate for coexistence.
The Guidance Department identifies Specific Educational Support Needs (SESN) and adapts the Diversity Care Plan accordingly. A Speech Therapist provides prevention, evaluation and treatment for communication disorders, working with teachers and families. The department coordinates with external medical and social services as needed. It also provides vocational and professional guidance in secondary and the Baccalaureate to support students with SESN.
The Costa Adeje International School teaches English and German. In HUMBI (4 months to 3 years), children receive three English sessions per week. In KINDER (3 to 6 years), German immersion is provided for one hour a day while three hours of English are taught per week in K1 and K2, increasing to four hours per week in K3. From 1st grade to 6th grade, primary students study four hours of English per week, with two hours in split groups. From 1st year of ESO to 2nd year of Bachillerato, students receive four hours of English per week with splits; German is taught three hours per week with splits from 3rd grade of primary to 4th ESO. Class splits are organized to study languages in small groups of 15 or fewer students.
Psychologists and guidance counselors promote mental health and help students understand themselves to maximise their school experience. They provide assessments to identify or rule out disorders that begin in infancy, childhood, or adolescence. They identify cases with SESN and adapt the Diversity Care Plan as needed. They coordinate with external medical services and social services and provide vocational and professional support in secondary and high school. They collaborate with families and teachers to ensure a positive climate for coexistence within the school.
The Coexistence Plan establishes the rights and obligations of students, teachers, families and staff to maintain a climate of respect, interculturality and democratic participation. It includes rules and strategies to prevent violence and to promote coexistence. There is an electronic devices policy restricting use during the school day, with Chromebooks allowed and mobile phones used under supervision. There is an Action Protocol for possible school bullying. The Health Care of Pupils section provides a Nursing Service from 10:30 to 14:30 to treat minor injuries, monitor chronic illnesses and administer emergency medications, with an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) available for emergencies; the school can call 112 if needed. Families must inform the school of illnesses with a medical report, and the school coordinates with health services when appropriate.
