Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The school was established in 1972 and is now a well-established Norwegian school abroad, with primary, middle, and upper secondary education. It is a private school with state support, approved by Norwegian authorities. The school is owned by the Fundacion Noruega Costa Blanca foundation. The Norwegian teaching staff and the school follow the same curricula and regulations as the Norwegian public school system. Since the 2004/2005 school year, all students can complete the 13-year schooling program here.

Community

DNSCB emphasizes internationalization and integration into the local Spanish community. As the only Norwegian international school in the area, it is part of the UN and UNESCO ASP Network. It has hosted visits from its partner school in Trinidad and Tobago, and this year a group of students and teachers traveled to the Caribbean. DNSCB participates in a municipal school network with Spanish, English and international schools, and Alfaz del Pi emphasizes integration.

Parent-Teacher Association

FAU is Foreldrerådets arbeidsutvalg, the Parents' Council Working Committee. All parents/guardians of primary-school pupils are members. FAU elects an executive committee and acts as the Parents' Council board; it is a legally mandated body. In Spain there is also a parent association called AMPA. FAU representatives for 2024-2025 are listed for each class, and meeting minutes and bylaws are published for reference. FAU provides opportunities for parents to engage with the school leadership and contribute to the school environment.

Den Norske Skole Costa Blanca is a private Norwegian school abroad located in Alfaz del Pi, Alicante. Established in 1972, it offers primary (grades 1–10) and upper secondary (VG1–VG3) education, following the same curricula and regulations as the Norwegian public system and staffed by Norwegian teachers. The school runs a 13-year Norwegian education path with up to 204 students, and the Norwegian government covers about 85% of costs, keeping fees comparatively affordable. The Bespoke Curriculum combines Norwegian standards with local context, and students study languages, including Spanish, with instruction available to all pupils. From 4th grade, each pupil has a PC/Chromebook to support project- and theme-based learning. The school provides systematic pupil development, contemporary pedagogy, and a holistic approach. A school-after-care program (SFO) serves 1st–4th graders September through May. DNS Costa Blanca also engages in Erasmus+ activities and maintains an active community through social events and international partnerships. With pride.
