The school has a Beratungsteam (counseling team) that includes the Team des schulischen Zusammenlebens (TSZ), Streitschlichter (peer mediators), Schulpsychologin (school psychologist), Sozialpädagoge (school social worker), Bullying – Präventionsteam (bullying prevention team), and Lerncoaching (learning coaching). The Team des schulischen Zusammenlebens supports the social climate of the school and helps students navigate social situations. Streitschlichter provide peer mediation to resolve conflicts among students. The Schulpsychologin offers individual and group counseling, collaborates with families, and works closely with teachers. The Sozialpädagoge delivers ongoing social and emotional support, contributes to bullying prevention, and coordinates with crisis intervention as needed. Lerncoaching provides targeted coaching to develop learning strategies and study skills.
The Schulpsychologin conducts discovery, consultation and support (individual, group, family) for decision difficulties; learning and performance disorders; behavioral disorders; behavioral difficulties; emotional disorders; ADHD; bullying; school conflicts; diversity and special educational needs. She collaborates with the mediation team and coordinates with families to support school–family cooperation. She also provides training and supervision, crisis intervention, and guidance for teachers. The Sozialpädagoge supports students with learning, social or emotional challenges, contributes to conflict resolution and bullying prevention, and facilitates inclusion and access to resources for students with special educational needs.
English begins in the primary years, with listening, speaking, reading and writing trained by English specialists to raise students to a high level. The graduation certificate attests English level at B2. The school is an official Oxford Test of English test center, allowing students to certify their English in school. At the end of the ninth grade, OTE for Schools is offered, and in the upper school, OTE Advanced is available; many upper-school students achieve the C1 level. The school employs native-speaking teachers or teachers sent from Germany to deliver instruction, with German language immersion from 8:00 a.m. to the end of the day.
Mental wellbeing is supported by the school psychologist, who is available to all students and handles learning and behavioral issues, emotional conflicts, and crises. She maintains close contact with teachers and is familiar with the school's structures. Functions include discovery, counseling and support (individual, groups, families) for decision difficulties; learning and performance disorders; behavioral and emotional issues; ADHD; bullying; and school conflicts. She collaborates with the mediation team, supports family coordination with the school, and provides crisis intervention, staff training and supervision, and career guidance and workshops. The school social worker also contributes to individual and group support, conflict resolution and crisis intervention, and works with families and external partners as needed.
Safeguarding is supported by the Mediation Team, which helps resolve conflicts and maintain respectful relations among students and staff. A four-part Gewaltprävention (violence prevention) catalog covers verbal violence, physical violence, property damage, and disruptions to teaching, with parents informed about measures at a dedicated parent evening. Deutsche Schule Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is a German Auslandsschule offering a bilingual education, following the KMK-approved German curriculum for ages 3–18. From kindergarten to Abitur, students learn under native-speaking teachers from Germany, Spain and England, in small classes supported by digital media. The school is affiliated with Germany and maintains German quality standards. In February 2022 Bund-Länder-Inspektion awarded the school the Exzellente Auslandsschule seal, reflecting inspection excellence. The campus combines a main building with a garden, a separate classroom building, a library, an auditorium and a cafeteria; the primary school has its own courtyard. Facilities include a sports hall, an athletics track and multiple fields, set in a natural environment about 10 minutes from Las Palmas. DSLPA provides intercultural exchange, partner-school programs and competitions such as Jugend Musiziert and Model United Nations, and offers Bachillerato alongside the Abitur. After-school activities supplement the curriculum, fostering language development and inquiry.
