Admissions

How to apply, waitlist information, and financial support

Admissions Process

The Deutsche Schule Madrid is a Begegnungsschule (a school of encounter) and welcomes families of all nationalities. Voranmeldung for Kindergarten and the School (Classes 1–11) for the 2026/2027 school year is accepted from 15 October 2025 to 31 January 2026. Register in the Voranmeldung portal.

After the application deadline, applications and documents are reviewed. Depending on available places, we inform before the Easter holidays whether admission is possible or whether a place on the waiting list is offered.

The headmaster decides on a case‑by‑case basis whether the child must take an admission test in German or in other subjects.

Das Anmeldeverfahren Klassen 1-11 (the admission process for Classes 1–11) requires: the school is a Begegnungsschule and welcomes families of all nationalities; the cutoff date for enrollment in Class 1 is August 31, and children should have turned six before September 1 of the enrollment year; German language knowledge is required because instruction is conducted entirely in German according to the German curriculum; if attending DSM due to language barriers is not possible, Rama E side-entry is offered for fourth-graders without German knowledge to learn German in the afternoon with the option to join in 5th grade; knowledge of Spanish is not required, but Spanish is a mandatory subject and can be learned at all grade levels; please also note the IPS (Spanish Integration Phase).

Pre-registration is via the Voranmeldung registration portal; admission and enrollment follow after review of the application and documents.

Some interesting aspects at a glance include: a double qualification pathway with the German International Abitur and access to German and Spanish universities and other international institutions; if your child has no German knowledge, consider the side-entry option for non-German-speaking students; at the end of the school career, students graduate with four languages: German, Spanish, English and French (French as an elective); there is a virtual campus tour and an information brochure; fees are listed in the Gebühren section.
