Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

ISLA supports social and emotional development as a core part of every learner's experience. Life skills are taught through outdoor learning, social interaction, and real-life applications. Every child receives an individual learning plan that considers strengths and needs, helping them grow socially and emotionally. Language support is woven into daily lessons to help all learners participate and build confidence in social interactions. Sport and outdoor activities are embedded in the weekly rhythm to foster teamwork, cooperation, resilience, and enjoyment of the outdoors, with activities such as gymnastics, athletics, capoeira, martial arts, yoga, and horse riding. A learning support team, including a remedial teacher and an educational psychologist, supports students with higher abilities or special educational needs and works with families to review progress.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

ISLA provides inclusive education for learners with high abilities and those with special educational needs. The curriculum is supported by collaborative Development Plans to guide each child's goals and progress. Teachers differentiate instruction to meet individual levels and provide extra guidance when needed. A learning support team includes a remedial teacher and an educational psychologist to provide targeted support and monitor progress. For language learners, language support is integrated into daily lessons to ensure access to the British curriculum. Families are engaged through close collaboration to review and adjust plans as students progress.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

ISLA immerses students in English and Spanish, with strong language support woven into daily lessons. Many children join with little or no English or Spanish, and teachers use visuals, hands-on activities, and step-by-step explanations to aid understanding. Language support is provided through small-group or one-to-one sessions as needed. English and Spanish are taught by native speakers, ensuring high-quality bilingual instruction. The school welcomes students from diverse linguistic backgrounds and emphasizes practical, interactive language learning.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is a top priority at ISLA. Daily sports and outdoor activities are built into the timetable to support wellbeing and learning. Children spend substantial time outdoors for fitness, nature exploration, and team activities, including on-site horses. The outdoor environment promotes physical health, social skills, and mental wellbeing, fostering sportsmanship and resilience. ISLA combines a British curriculum with a strong focus on personal development and life skills to support well-rounded mental wellbeing.

ISLA Academy in Manacor, Mallorca, opened in September 2024 to deliver British education with a distinct focus on sport and outdoor learning. The school follows a British curriculum framework, preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE and A-level examinations, with Cambridge IGCSE and Edexcel IGCSE options. Instruction is in English and Spanish, with daily language support in both languages. The program blends core subjects with project-based learning and frequent outdoor experiences, using the natural environment—forests, beaches, and campus spaces—for field trips, science investigations, and physical education. Each pupil receives an Individual Learning Plan to tailor progression for all abilities and diverse backgrounds, supported by a remedial teacher and an educational psychologist. Facilities emphasize movement and wellbeing: most days include outdoor lessons, sport, and field activities. A collaboration with Mallorca Art School enriches visual arts, while a range of on-site clubs and Discovery Days extend learning beyond the classroom. This approach supports learners.
