The school places emotional well-being and mental health at the heart of its ethos from Early Years, alongside King's Values. A dedicated pastoral and wellbeing leader coordinates support across the curriculum and assemblies to address students' social and emotional needs. There is an on-site counsellor who attends to pupils' emotional wellbeing. Staff receive ongoing training to support learners effectively, and the programme is complemented by interactions with international universities, including an annual University Fair and a Careers Day. Anti-bullying is addressed through PSHE sessions, Circle time and assemblies, and is revisited throughout the year. The school holds the Wellbeing Award for Schools.
Mental wellbeing is a core focus of school life, supported by a dedicated pastoral and wellbeing leader and an on-site counsellor who provide direct support to pupils. Staff receive ongoing training to recognise and respond to mental health needs and to support student resilience. Wellbeing topics are integrated into the curriculum and assemblies, with opportunities for students to discuss concerns openly. The school fosters empathy, resilience, and healthy relationships as part of its wellbeing programme. Anti-bullying and PSHE sessions reinforce positive mental health.
The safeguarding policy aims to actively promote the well-being of pupils, safeguard and promote welfare, and establish clear procedures for dealing with concerns about welfare, abuse, neglect or exploitation. It sets a zero-tolerance approach to child-on-child sexual violence and harassment and promotes a whole-school culture of safety, equality and protection. Staff are trained to carry out safeguarding responsibilities and feel supported in this role, and the school works with parents, local authorities, and partner organisations.
