Extra-Curricular Activities

Clubs, activities, and opportunities to explore interests and passions

Academic and Intellectual

Les Classes à Enjeux Maritimes connects ocean-related learning with real-world issues. Initiated in 2020, it links marine environmental protection, the blue economy, the history of navigation, fisheries resources, and the oceans2 role in cultural and economic exchanges, mobilizing sciences, humanities, languages, the arts, and history. The project has expanded to the lycée, enabling classes to engage with researchers, associations, institutions, and maritime professionals, and to collaborate, debate, and learn about sustainable ocean use. The Latin8 Greek language and culture option is a vital complement that enriches language study, with weekly hours and field trips (Rome 2023; Naples 2024) to deepen linguistic and cultural competencies across French, Spanish, and other languages.

Arts and Creative

Arts Plastiques is an option open to motivated students from 2nde to Terminale, with 3 hours per week (1 hour theory, 2 hours practice) that aims to prepare for higher artistic or cultural studies, develop practical skills, and support independent creative projects. The Theater program offers a 10th-grade elective (3 hours per week) plus a High School Theater Workshop (5 hours per week) with rehearsals and weekend sessions, culminating in one or two plays presented to diverse audiences. The Music program provides musical education from kindergarten through lycée, including a chorus of about a hundred singers (6th to 12th), annual Christmas and summer concerts, and repertoire spanning major works; in 5th grade, some courses are taught in English as part of the DNL project.

Cultural and Language

The Lyce9e is an international school with four languages (French, Spanish, Catalan, English) and offers ongoing exchanges with other institutions. The school highlights cultural pluralism with more than 73 nationalities represented, enriching the school community through multilingual exchanges. The WeBradio and other cultural activities give students platforms to share ideas and creative outputs, while language-focused programs (Latin–Greek, etc.) provide cross-cultural learning and travel experiences (e.g., Rome and Naples).

Social and Hobbies

The school offers extensive sports through the Association Sportive Scolaire (UNSS) and the AELFB, including volleyball (Lyce9e and CM2/6e), basketball, handball, badminton, table tennis, athletics, and trail running, with matches against other Barcelona schools. Students can also participate in student-run media and arts activities such as the WebRadio, theatre, and music ensembles, which foster collaboration and social engagement. These extracurriculars provide multiple avenues for student teamwork, competition, and informal clubs across ages.

Community and Service

Solidarity activities are a regular part of student life, with events like Action Solidaire (2016, 2018, 2022) organized to support social causes. The Ecology Workshop runs weekly projects where eco-delegates and volunteers design and implement environmental initiatives, such as recycling, energy-saving campaigns, insect hotels, and cultivating a green wall. The schools ecology efforts have earned recognition from Barcelona7s Escoles sostenibles network and an E3D label (level 2) from the Toulouse academy, underscoring a commitment to sustainable practice across the community.

Leadership and Professional

The Lyce9e provides student leadership through the Conseil de Vie Lyce9enne (CVL), a formal student council that helps shape life at the lycée. The Programme TEI supports leadership and digital skill development, with ongoing opportunities to engage in school governance and project leadership. The school also integrates career-oriented activities and exchanges with partner institutions to broaden professional horizons for students as they plan for higher education.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

A strong emphasis on sport supports physical health and well-being through school-based clubs and competitions under UNSS and the LFB7s sporting associations, including volleyball, basketball, handball, badminton, table tennis, athletics, and trail running. The schools sustainable campus initiatives (Escoles sostenibles) promote wellbeing by fostering a healthy, environmentally conscious learning environment. In addition to sports, arts, and clubs, the vibrant cultural life—music, theater, and radio—contributes to a balanced, well-rounded student experience.
