Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

RWIS Palma uses a holistic approach to student growth, balancing social, emotional, physical, and academic development. Class Connect sessions every morning help students connect with peers and teachers and build character traits such as curiosity, initiative, persistence, adaptability, leadership, and social awareness. The school uses a restorative justice model to guide student well-being, prioritising repairing harm and restoring relationships. A dedicated School Well-Being Team oversees a wellbeing framework that is integrated across year levels, with regular assessments and activities to strengthen emotional and social skills. Restorative Justice and Positive Discipline support student ownership and learning from mistakes. Weekly Community Time fosters community through assemblies, buddy activities, guest workshops, and service projects.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Learning support for diverse learners is provided through a Learning Support Leader who works with the Student Life Coordinator, the School Counsellor, and teachers to meet diagnosed needs. The role conducts diagnostic assessments, designs targeted interventions, and maintains progress records, while guiding teachers in differentiated strategies and coordinating with families. Staff receive training and resources on learning support to ensure inclusive practice across the curriculum. Safeguarding and wellbeing are central to supporting students with additional needs within a whole-school approach.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is embedded in RWIS Palma's Wellbeing and Character Development programme, including Class Connect sessions and a School Well-Being Team that integrates wellbeing across all year levels. A restorative justice practice guides behavior and relationships, prioritising learning from mistakes and maintaining a respectful school climate. The wellbeing framework includes regular assessments and activities to strengthen students' emotional and social skills. Community Time on Fridays adds structure for relationship-building, assemblies, buddy activities, guest workshops, and service and experiential learning, all contributing to a supportive environment for mental wellbeing.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is a priority at RWIS Palma. The school has safeguarding systems and policies to protect students, including clear procedures for reporting concerns, regular staff safeguarding training, comprehensive background checks for staff and volunteers, and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of safeguarding practices to ensure effectiveness.

Raoul Wallenberg International School Palma (RWIS Palma) follows the Cambridge International Pathway as its core framework, offering Cambridge Primary (5–11), Cambridge Lower Secondary (11–14), Cambridge Upper Secondary (14–16), and Cambridge Advanced (16–19). The RWIS curriculum blends Cambridge with RWIS's cycle of inquiry, engaging students in six points of inquiry to develop critical thinking, collaboration and problem solving. Cambridge qualifications are recognised and enable progression to universities worldwide. Assessments follow Cambridge's mastery-based approach. RWIS Palma is part of an independent school organization originating in Sweden. The Raoul Wallenberg School was founded in 2005, opening its first school in August 2006. The organization educates 4,500 students in 20 schools and maintains stable financial performance. The campus spans 10,000 metres, blending historic charm and modern facilities, including a chapel-turned-auditorium, outdoor spaces, gardens and an orchard, solar power and rainwater harvesting with safeguarding. Extracurriculars include academics, languages, sports and community service, with activities 15:35–16:30.
