The Academy School opened in 1985 with 25 children and two teachers. It started as a Summer School and, due to its early success, continued as a Preparatory school from September 1985. Today the school has over 480 pupils aged 2 to 18 and offers progression to IGCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. It has been inspected by the Cambridge University Examination Board and the International Baccalaureate organization and is a recognized examination centre. The school is a member of the National Association of British Schools in Spain and is regularly inspected by British and Spanish inspectors.
The Academy International School is a dynamic centre of education, continually evolving in response to student needs and the global environment. Children follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales, covering a wide spectrum of subjects. There are over 315 students aged 2 to 18, with the majority being Spanish, British or German, and representation from other continents, which provides a global perspective and promotes a rich cultural experience. Numerous activities throughout the year promote learning as a partnership among teachers, parents, children and the wider community.
All parents of pupils are automatically members of the PTA (Parents & Teachers Association) and can take as active or inactive roles. It forms a positive link between the parents and teachers within the school with the common aim of creating the best possible environment for our children. The PTA has a policy of inclusion, so everyone is welcome. PTA members are ambassadors of the school, the voice of the parents, fund-raisers and work alongside the teaching staff to enhance and improve the experiences of our children. The Class Representative encourages parents within each class to participate in PTA and school social activities, promoting inclusion. The Class Representative acts as the link for all parents to the PTA, welcomes new parents, supports the class teacher to organise events, and communicates relevant discussions to the parents of their class.
The Academy International School Junior Campus is located on a seven-acre rural estate in Marratxí, characterized by its traditional Mallorcan country house architecture and extensive natural spaces. Students follow the National Curriculum of England and Wales, transitioning from the Early Years Foundation Stage through to Primary and eventually the International Baccalaureate Diploma. A unique feature of the campus is its integration of nature into daily life; the grounds house several animals, including horses, which students learn to care for as part of their extracurricular activities. Facilities include an orchard, a vegetable garden, a swimming pool, and specialized rooms for music and art. Learning often extends beyond the classroom into the "paddock" or gardens, fostering a connection with the environment. With a student body representing over 30 nationalities, the school maintains a community-focused atmosphere where all year groups interact. The school day runs from 8:55 am to 4:00 pm, supported by an "Early Bird" morning service.
