The British School of Barcelona was founded in 1958 in Castelldefels as The Anglo-American School. It moved to its present Castelldefels site in 1999 and was renamed The British School of Barcelona to reflect the education offered. It has been part of the Cognita group since 2007. The school now operates across three campuses—Castelldefels, Sitges, and City Campus in central Barcelona—with the City Campus opening in 2021. Cognita Group is the proprietor of the school.
The school follows UK-accredited curricula and emphasizes spiritual, moral, social and cultural development across all campuses. It maintains a house system and a strong pastoral program, and actively promotes diversity with Celebration Days to recognise different cultures. There is a wide range of after-school clubs, leadership opportunities and charitable work, including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. A Wellbeing Centre and dedicated spaces support student welfare across the campuses.
The British School of Barcelona is a private, co-educational international day school for ages 2 to 18, delivering the English National Curriculum with an inquiry-based approach across three campuses: Castelldefels, Sitges and City Campus. The school offers Cambridge IGCSE, Cambridge A Levels and International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, with BTEC Music and BTEC Sport, ensuring options aligned to entry requirements. In Early Years, learning follows the Curiosity Approach; primary uses a transdisciplinary model linking core and foundation subjects, while the secondary and sixth form provide 18 A Level courses alongside the IBDP.
