Academic and Intellectual

The school accompanies students from early years through high school within the IB framework and a German-language model, with German as the language of instruction and progressive teaching of Spanish, Catalan and English. Early Childhood Education focuses on discovery, play and learning basics in a nurturing, stimulating environment. Primary Education uses the IB Primary Years Program with six global themes and a final exhibition. Arts and Creative

In the IB profile Indagadores y Pensadores, students engage in debate, science, robotics and chess. The IB profile Buenos Comunicadores includes theatre, podcast, oratory and writing. The IB profile Integres y Solidarios includes community service and sustainability. The IB profile Audaces y Equilibrados includes sports, yoga and nutrition, and Reflexivos y Mentalidad Abierta includes meditation, intercambios culturales and art.

Cultural and Language

German is the language of instruction at all educational stages with complete immersion in German complemented by the progressive teaching of Spanish, Catalan and English. A trilingual language model uses German as the main language (40%), Catalan (30%), and Spanish (30%), with English introduced progressively as an additional language. At the end of the school stage, students reach a C1 level in German and at least B2 in English, certified by Goethe-Institut and Trinity College London. Catalan and Spanish are co-official languages, each making up about 30% in the context.

Social and Hobbies

The IB profile emphasizes active engagement through debate, sciences, robotics and chess; communication through theatre, podcast, oratory and writing; citizenship via community service and sustainability; and personal balance with sports, yoga and nutrition. It also includes meditation, intercultural exchanges and art as opportunities for personal growth.

Community and Service

The IB program includes a Personal Project and Service as Action, emphasizing student initiative and community involvement. There is ongoing community service and sustainability work as part of the program. Digital portfolios and tools support reflection and documentation of learning through electronic portfolios, such as ManageBac.

Lifestyle and Wellbeing

Midday meals run from 13:00 to 14:30, with after-school activities from 16:30 to 18:00 and Saturday activities for special projects. There are intensive periods for projects during non-school times. Zürich Schule Barcelona is a German international school in Spain offering Preschool through Secondary Education with German as the language of instruction. The school delivers the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP), preparing students for the IB Diploma Programme. Three educational stages are provided: Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary, with entry from age 2 in KleinesZürich and from age 3 for Kindergarten. Typical class sizes are 22–24, with Early Childhood groups 10–12 taught by two educators. German is the main language with complete immersion, complemented by progressive instruction in Spanish, Catalan and English. Zürich Schule Barcelona is the first in Spain to combine IB with German as a vehicular language from the early years, enabling multilingual competence (German C1, English B2). Facilities include IB learning spaces, a library, science labs, outdoor areas and an exhibition hall, plus a Digital School Strategy with iPads and ManageBac.
