No boarding is offered; the British School in Colombo is an independent coeducational international day school.
Uniforms are required for all pupils. There is a school uniform shop on site, and all uniforms can be purchased there or from TUS, 15 Layards Road, Colombo 5. Junior School daily uniform is a purple polo shirt with grey shorts or a grey skirt, white socks, plain black shoes and a school cap; Senior School daily uniform is grey skirt or tailored trousers with a white shirt and black shoes; formal uniform is worn on special occasions and the PE kit is worn for physical education.
The school has on-site canteens. Pupils may bring a snack from home or purchase items from the school canteen during morning break.
Junior School houses are Centaur, Griffin, Hobbit and Unicorn. Senior School houses are Nobel, Newton, Scott and Shakespeare. Inter-house activities include sporting, artistic, dramatic, musical and academic competitions with points awarded for participation and achievement.
The school is independent and governed by a Board of Directors; a Parent Teacher Association exists to involve parents in school life.
The British School in Colombo is a long-established, co-educational day school offering a British curriculum from early years to the Sixth Form. The Junior School follows the English National Curriculum, while the Senior School delivers Cambridge IGCSE and A Level courses. The school teaches in English and serves around 1,400 students aged 2 to 18, with a campus housing both sections and sports facilities, a swimming pool, canteens and an auditorium. Since its foundation in 1994, the school has developed purpose-built science laboratories, libraries, computer rooms and age-appropriate specialist spaces to support progression through the grades. Across both schools, students can access a broad programme of extracurricular activities, including over 70 Junior School clubs and ten sport disciplines. The campus features an auditorium, a dedicated outdoor play area for the youngest pupils, and a sports terrace. Fixtures and activities extend learning beyond the classroom and foster participation, teamwork and leadership.
