Junior School facilities include a designated outdoor play area for Playgroup to Reception with age-appropriate spaces. Each class has a well-resourced Form Room, and specialist classrooms for Music, Dance, Drama, Art, Computer Science and Library. From Year 3, pupils bring a laptop to school daily, while EYFS and Years 1-2 access school-provided devices to enhance learning. Shared sporting areas with the Senior School include a large covered sports terrace with tennis and badminton nets, a fully equipped basketball and netball court, an outdoor play area, an outside basketball/football pitch and a covered swimming pool used for lessons. The Auditorium provides a performance space for expressive arts and there is a garden area and library accessible to pupils.
Senior School on-site sports facilities include a swimming pool, two basketball courts (one indoor, one outdoor), a gym, cricket nets and a sports terrace housing indoor badminton and tennis courts. In addition, off-site facilities are used for football, cricket and competitive swimming as needed. Extra-curricular sport is run before and after school, with regular fixtures across ten sports led by specialist coaches.
Six purpose-built science laboratories support chemistry, biology and physics with dedicated prep rooms and laboratory technicians. Classrooms are equipped with a range of devices and all students bring a personal laptop to school every day. The Senior Library is managed by full-time librarians, with reference materials, periodicals and a large fiction collection, plus ICT facilities and comfortable work spaces. Junior School has specialist classrooms for Music, Dance, Drama, Art, Computer Science and Library, and a fully equipped Auditorium for expressive arts.
Extra-curricular activities include after-school clubs; in the Junior School there are over seventy different clubs and societies offered each term. Sport is strong with ten sports offered by specialist coaches, with before- and after-school sessions and regular fixtures across teams.
The British School in Colombo is a long-established, co-educational day school offering a British curriculum from early years to the Sixth Form. The Junior School follows the English National Curriculum, while the Senior School delivers Cambridge IGCSE and A Level courses.
