Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

ISH provides state-funded education for ages 2 to 19 and teaches the IB curriculum in English. The mission is to develop an international mindset in students and a global conscience, with graduates who recognise their common humanity and feel a shared responsibility for the planet. Students come from many backgrounds, and teachers come from diverse cultures. The Diploma Programme supports university study globally and Diploma Programme students achieve higher grades, points, and diplomas than the global IB average. There are approximately 825 students across Early Years, Primary Years, Middle Years, and the Diploma Programme.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

ISH has an inclusive approach to education. All students have access to support to remove or reduce barriers so they can fully participate and develop to reach their educational goals. Each section has a Student Welfare Team (SWT) that includes the programme principal, school psychologist, school counsellor (PYP, MYP & DP), career guidance counsellor (MYP & DP), school nurse, and the special needs teacher(s). There are special needs teachers in Pre-EY/EY, PYP, MYP1-4, and MYP5/DP. They develop pedagogy, guide teachers, investigate student needs, decide on accommodations, and create/update individual development plans (IDPs) and action plans. They support the class and subject teachers and the student assistants.

Mental Wellbeing

The school counsellor assists with psychosocial knowledge to promote pupil learning and development. The counsellor communicates with individual students and their families, focusing on solutions, support, motivation, and crisis. The counsellor participates in networks with school staff, mental health professionals, police and social services. The Career Guidance Counsellor supports students in making informed decisions about post‑MYP/DP options. The School Nurse and School Physician promote health and well‑being, with health visits and vaccinations offered as part of Swedish school health care. All contacts with student health services are confidential.

Safeguarding

Staff include a counsellor and psychologist who support student welfare and well‑being. The psychologist provides consultation and guidance for staff, training, and identification of psychological conditions for learning, including participation in crisis management when needed. The school nurse and school physician provide health advice and vaccination services, with confidential, voluntary access and digital health records. The school collaborates with external services, including mental health professionals, police and social services, to safeguard students. Crisis management processes are in place to address emergencies.
