Admissions

The International School of Karlskrona is an IB world school offering a compulsory international program. In cases where applications are oversubscribed, priority is given to applicants with a sibling in the school. Admissions can occur throughout the academic year if class size permits. The school is located at Wämöskolan, Karlskrona. The ISK mission is to provide a learning-focused environment that stimulates creativity and innovation in a culture of collaboration and respect so that each student develops the skills and knowledge to become internationally-minded and a lifelong learner. The admission process is as follows: 1) Choose the school via the municipality's School Choice and submit a completed application to Kunskapsförvaltningen, 371 83 Karlskrona. 2) The guardian completes Application Form Part 1 and sends it to ISK's School Administrator and the IB Programme Coordinator. 3) The current or last school completes Application Form Part 2 (PYP or MYP) and sends it to ISK. 4) The last 1–2 academic report cards and related certificates from previous schools are sent to ISK (work samples may supplement documentation). 5) Once documents are received, the applicant and guardians are invited to an interview with the PYP and/or MYP Coordinator. 6) On a case-by-case basis, ISK may request a trial class for one day, along with observational notes and medical records. 7) An IB Programme Coordinator sends a review and endorsement to the School Administrator. 8) The Head of School and/or PYP & MYP Coordinator make the final admission decision based on the criteria, evidence, and whether ISK can accommodate the learner's needs, and considering class size. 9) The School Administrator informs guardians of the decision and starting date and sends an Agreement to Admission for signature. 10) Once the agreement is signed and returned, the student can start on the stated date. All documents can be requested from the School Administrator. ISK reserves the right to decline admission if the applicant cannot meet the needs or if ISK cannot accommodate them. Costs: ISK is a public school; there are no fees for applying or attending, and no school bus service is provided. Special Needs: ISK provides English as an Additional Language (EAL) support as needed; entry to certain IB programs may require a suitable level of English; ISK aims to provide inclusive education.
